Anonymous asked: I respect your take on the matter but I just want to point out that morality and ethics is something that US CATHOLICS ascribe to but should not be necessarily the case for the rest of the Filipinos. Not everyone is catholic; not all religious factions support the case of the Catholic Church as some actually push for contraceptives and sex education in their religious teachings. My point is that the law should be free from the interventions of social and religious institutions. The law is there to serve the welfare of the people and if it is by providing them with multitude of options with regard to their reproductive health then they should push for it. As you said, not all that is legal is moral. It is not as if the government will fine a couple who refuses to use birth-control methods.

The church is there to guide their people. If they strongly feel that the options outlined in the RH Bill go against their church teachings, then they should advise or warn their members. As a catholic that is my obligation to them. But your religion should not persecute others.

I'm sorry for leaving such a lengthy reply on your tumblr. You may opt not to publish this. this is just my response to your post.

Sometimes, having the option makes all the difference.

Like, say, you’re taking an exam and your teacher handed you the answer key. You don’t like to cheat, but the option is there. What will you do?

Let’s say you are Adam Sandler in the movie Click. You were given THE remote control. Will you not use it?

Having the option gives the false notion it is right. I think it is why the Church doesn’t want the bill to be enacted. You are right, not everyone is Catholic. But that doesn’t mean that the Church is going to sit idly while something that can affect even the minority (but in this case, the majority) of the people.

Thanks for taking time to reply. Highly appreciated.
